Your prayer life is everything you do to stay in touch with God. A strong prayer life is not limited to a special time of prayer. Although you may need to set aside an hour or two for intense and rewarding prayer time, your prayer life is more than that. God exists without ceasing. He is everywhere at the same time. Your communication with Him shouldn’t be limited to a specific time of the day. You should make communication with God as natural as you live your physical life.
Whether we know it or not, our spirit man is alive in Christ. And for this important part of us to thrive and grow, it needs to stay connected to God, the Father of all Spirits. He fills everything in every way and exists in every part of the universe.
Am I a God at hand, saith the Lord, and not a God afar off? Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord. – Jeremiah 23:23-24 KJV
If there’s anything you need more, it is a deep prayer life. If there’s one thing you should always ask God, it is to make you as prayerful as you should be. There’s no excuse for prayerlessness. There’s no replacement for prayerfulness. You should protect your prayer life more than you watch over your mental life. Don’t get too busy with church work that you neglect spending time with God. You need all the strength and wisdom He can provide to do God’s work better and with tangible results.
When Does Your Prayer Life Begin?
When you come into the world, God automatically becomes your Creator. When you become born again, God becomes your Father. This is a scriptural truth many people ignore or refuse to accept. They can’t stand the idea that they are not God’s children except they accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. While it is understandable why they avoid this fact, we must understand that God is not going to change His rules because of our weaknesses. He can only give us the grace to meet His kingdom standard.
The moment you become a child of God, your prayer life begins. God gives you access to His presence through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. All the barriers of sin and unbelief between you and God are taken away. God becomes your Father, and you His son or daughter. You can pray to God and He will answer you as fast as He can.
For through him (Christ) we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God. – Ephesians 2:18-19 KJV
Begin with Private Prayer
Your personal prayer is the one thing that reveals how your prayer life looks like. You must create time to meet God every day. You cannot say you love God and not pray to Him. True lovers find time to see and talk to each other. Your personal prayer is where you draw life, grace and power from God. It is the place where God bestows you with wisdom, knowledge and understanding to know and do His will.
Pray in the morning, at noon and when you have extra time. Pray in the evening when you come back from work. You need all the time you can spare to stay connected to God, your Father and Friend.
When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek. – Psalm 27:8 KJV
Pray when you need help and when you have most of the things you need. Pray for yourself and for others. Pray when you feel like praying and when you feel too tired to pray. God cannot be tired of helping you. So instead of skipping prayer, ask Him to give you the desire to pray. You will be surprised how fast the strength to pray comes. It pleases God when you do everything to be with Him in prayer. David was called a man after God’s heart because He has a little understanding of what God thinks. He prayed for increase of the desire to spend time wherever God dwells:
One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple. – Psalm 27:4 KJV
Do You Need a Deep Prayer Life?
You can develop a deep prayer life by being conscious of God everywhere you are and in everything you do. God never leaves a place the way we humans think. He is everywhere, sees all things, and knows all things. To develop a deep prayer life, you must use the eyes of faith to see God everywhere you go. He is in your sitting room, bedroom, restroom and kitchen. God is in your home, family, marriage and relationships. He is in your neighborhood, community, city and country. We can hinder God from working, but we cannot stop Him from existing.
Live in the consciousness of God’s omnipresence, omniscience and omnipotence. As you wake in the morning, talk to Him. As you drive to work, say some prayers in your mind or under your breath. As you take an evening walk, pray along. You can never pray too much and you can never bother God too much. He can do all things.
