The Bible has a lot to say about Jesus Christ. His words and works are enough to show us whether He answered prayers or not. Before we answer the question “Can Jesus Answer Prayer? we need to ask and answer the following questions:

Did people believe Jesus would solve their problems? 

Yes, many Jews and gentiles believed that Jesus had the power to solve their problems. They used every opportunity to bring the sick, the lame, the deaf, the dumb and the blind to Jesus. Some of them had so much faith that a word from Jesus was all they needed to receive answers to prayers. 

Matthew 8:8 KJV

The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

Did people bring their problems to Jesus for solutions? 

Yes, many people brought sick family members, friends and neighbors to Jesus. They had never seen a man who could easily heal the sick, cast out devils, raise the dead and cleanse the leper as Jesus did. It was something so new and strange to them. 

Matthew 4:24 KJV

And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.

Did Jesus say He could help them? 

Yes, Jesus was confident that He had the power and authority over all problems. He saved sinners, calmed a storm, blessed little children, and healed the deaf and dumb. He knew that His Father was with Him and had given Him authority and power to give eternal life to all that came to Him. 

Matthew 17:16-18 KJV

And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

 

John 3:34-36 KJV

For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

 

John 5:20-21 KJV

For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them ; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.

Did Jesus solve their problems? 

Yes, Jesus Christ the Son of God solved the problems of the people. As long as people came to Him with their needs, He took time to attend to them. His methods of solving problems were teaching, preaching, prayer, feeding and giving of financial help. Once the people believed in Him, they got what they needed. They always were happy to have Jesus around. He did what many prophets, godly men and women could not do. 

Mark 2:12 KJV

And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

 

Matthew 15:30-31 KJV

And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and he healed them: Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

Can Jesus Answer Prayers? 

Jesus Christ can answer prayers because He is God (John 1:1-4; John 10:30). He can forgive our sins and make us righteous (Mark 2:10-11). He can cure all sicknesses and diseases (Matthew 8:16-17). Jesus can heal people remotely because He is God (Matthew 8:13; John 4:50-53). 

Can We Pray to the Father or Jesus? 

Another question on the minds of many people is: Should we pray to Jesus just as we pray to God? The answer to this question is yes, we should pray to Jesus because He is God. However, Jesus showed us an example of how to pray. He taught us to pray directly to the Father (Matthew 6:9). 

The Father and the Son are in unity. There’s no jealousy between them. God answers our prayers when we pray directly to Him, and also when we pray to Jesus. Every prayer we make to God or Jesus goes to the same place. When the Word became flesh, God was so pleased with Him that He gave Him all authority, power and the fullness of the Godhead 

Colossians 2:9-10 KJV

For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.

 

2 Peter 1:16-18 KJV

For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

However, in many instances, Jesus encouraged us to pray to the Father in the name of the Son. This could be a special way He wants us to honor the Father just as He did in the Lord’s Prayer.
